From: Cave-in-Rock, Hardin County, Illinois, USASize: 9.0 x 7.0 x 6.9cmWeight: 200g This is a very unusual and very aesthetic specimen from Cave-in-Rock. What we have here is a cluster of calcite crystals, some of which are doubly terminated, and they have a coating of small, purple fluorite cubes growing on them. This looks more like some Spanish fluorite combo pieces, but yet it is from Illinois. The condition is excellent, and overall the specimen is a floater since the cluster of crystals is complete and has no obvious contact area even on the back which also contains calcite & fluorite crystals. A few of the calcite crystals have cleaves, but they are not noticeable unless you look very closely, and it doesn't affect the beauty of the piece at all.
The calcite is mildly fluorescent under long-wave UV and glows a white-yellow color. The specimen comes with a labeled acrylic base.
