From: Cianciana Mine, Cianciana, Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy
Size: 15.1 x 10.2 x 4.8cm
This incredible sulphur specimen was pulled out of the mine sometime between 1915-1920, and was acquired by an Italian nobleman during WWI. It was in his family's collection until recently. It comes from Agrigento province where all of the world's best sulphur specimens come from, and it is from the Cianciana Mine which is considered the location of the finest Italian sulphur specimens. It also has unusual crystal shapes in that they are somewhat tabular in shape. The crystals have very gemmy clarity and luster and the largest one is 2.6cm from corner to corner. The condition is quite good with very little surface damage - just one damaged corner on the large crystal. Some internal fractures elsewhere, but no other visible surface damage which is remarkable considering the age of this piece.
The specimen comes with a custom acrylic display base.
