This is a very aesthetic mineral specimen of Heliodor (Golden Beryl) on Muscovite. These heliodor specimens from Tajikistan have an intresting history that is shrouded in mystery. These specimens come from a rather "ambiguous" part of Tajikistan, so the mine that they are supposedly from has never been located by any official geologists. This has led many to belive they may be aquamarines which have been treated to make them yellow, however, nobody has figured out what that treatment would be since there is no known treatment that will turn an aquamarine yellow. If you look closely at this specimen you can see a clear quartz crystal embedded in the muscovite, and had this specimen been irradiated then it would have turned the quartz black.

The source we acquired this specimen from is a reputable German dealer who is well acquainted with the mines in Tajikistan, and he says without a doubt these are real golden heliodors, and he got it direct from the source. Nevertheless, the jury is still out, and it has made these something of a collectible because of the mystery. You can find more information about this mystery online, and there is a great article about it here: http://www.treasuremountainmining.com/index.php?route=pavblog/blog&id=45

Regardless of what the truth is, this is a very pretty beryl specimen that has a wonderful story relating to it!  It comes mounted on a custom selenite base.
