Opalized Gastropod from France

This is a very interesting specimen where a gastropod of the species Helix Ramondi has been turned to opal over time. The inside of the shell became filled with material which later opalized and the outer shell eroded away leaving this incredible formation still attached to the matrix rock. The gastropod itself measures 2.3cm wide.

The specimen comes with a custom display base.
